Project objectives

The objective of the project is to digitally restore the ornamental Dacian shields using reverse engineering techniques and methods. The project involves the use of virtual reality and augmented reality applications to promote and capitalize on these artifacts with the general public.

Project results

The estimated results of the project are the following:

  • the data sets obtained by 3D scanning of the available ornamental shields;
  • creation of a database that will contain each individual ornament of 3D scanned shields;
  • 3D reconstruction of the two ornamental shields stolen from the site of Piatra Rosie;
  • 3D reconstruction of all known Dacian ornamental shields in their original state - without rust, bent or missing fragments;
  • development of a virtual reality application that will allow the manipulation of the 3D models of the shields;
  • development of an augmented reality application that will allow the display of additional information in the context with the dacian shields (additional information in the form of text, image, audio files, video files) that will be compatible with phones and tablets;
  • development of an augmented reality application compatible with augmented reality glasses;
  • development of the project web page that will contain the database with all the scanned 3D ornaments;
  • two WoS indexed scientific papers;
  • two ERIH Plus indexed scientific papers;
  • participation in an international conference;
