The postdoctoral research project aims at scientific investigation, digitization, reconstruction and promotion of the ornamental Dacian shields using virtual reality and augmented reality techniques. This research will have an important impact both in the field of cultural heritage and in the field of digital restoration of cultural heritage assets. The research within this project follows the direction of research specific to the cultural heritage recommended by the European Commission, namely, to use modern digitization solutions to acquire detailed 3D models of each individual detail. The digitization methodology in 3D format will ensure a very good accuracy fact that will allow to identify the similarities between the ornaments of this type, in addition the 3D scanning realized within the project and the database of the ornaments related to the Dacian shields of the parade will allow to 3D reconstruction of the two stolen shields from the archaeological site of Piatra Roșie, which are still being searched by INTERPOL. This scientific comparison from the point of view of the digitized details in 3D format will allow to identify the ornate shields that were created in the same workshop and that used the same stamps. The dissemination within the project will be done through the development of an interactive virtual reality application compatible with HTC Vive and an augmented reality one that will be distributed free of charge directly on the web platform of the research project page. The digital applications are aimed at raising awareness regarding the current status of the Dacian ornamental shields.
